Klun Law Firm History

Klun Law Firm, P.A. has had a long and distinguished history.  Ely native Laurence (Larry) Klun acquired the practice in 1979 from attorney Ronald Walls, who accepted a judicial appointment.  To the practice, Larry brought an entrepreneurial spirit and a true passion for the law.  His desire was to help people make their dreams a reality.  But more importantly, he had the vision and the follow-through to make those dreams happen.  His spirit and approach created the foundation of Klun Law Firm.  We have continued to create a unique and successful environment, which has allowed us to differentiated ourselves in a competitive market.

 Initially, Larry brought experience in both legal legislative and administrative issues. He served as the Associate Director and later Executive Director of the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools, an association of 50 municipal corporations related to the mineral tax base in the Taconite Relief Area. However, he soon developed a reputation for his skilled representation of cities and associations.  The city of Ely named Larry as its City Attorney. The surrounding communities of Babbitt and Winton soon followed with similar appointments.

 Expanding our firm's services to clients in 1999 became possible with the addition of attorney Rae R. Bentz.  Rae brought to our firm eight years experience representing clients from Ely and the surrounding area.  In addition, J. Fletcher Freeman joined the firm in early 2003.  Prior to joining the firm, Fletcher spent 21 years serving as a Justice of the Peace in a small claims court in Texas and offers his extensive experience in tax and estate law to clients in the area.  In 2006, Larry Klun passed away; however, his legacy and spirit remain.  Larry's oldest daughter, Kelly M.Klun, joined the practice after receiving her degree from Hamline School of Law in 2008. 

 As our practice has grown, so have the services we offer to our clients.  Klun Law Firm has a collection of practice areas that service the needs of individuals, families, governments, and businesses. We are proud of the services we provide to our clients, and are excited about our continued growth. Our expanded resources and services allow us to better serve our community and you. In addition to our legal services, we now offer title insurance through our sister company Canoe Country Title. We thank you for the trust you place in us when you allow us to serve your legal needs.
